Sucrose-negative variants of Candida tropicalis.
Four cultures of a Candida sp. that lacked alpha-glucosidase activity were isolated from clinical specimens. Physiological, morphological, and serological characterizations of the yeasts and deoxyribonucleic acid reassociation studies supported their classification as a variant of C. tropicalis.
متن کاملDetection of Candida antigenuria in disseminated candidiasis by immunoblotting.
Immunoblotting (Western blotting) was used to detect Candida albicans antigens in urine of 10 patients with disseminated candidiasis who had two or more positive blood cultures. Twelve urine samples were examined; and antigenuria was found in five of six patients with C. albicans infections, in one patient with a mixed Candida infection (including C. albicans), and in one of two patients with C...
متن کاملCandidiasis caused by Candida kefyr in a neonate: Case report
BACKGROUND Systemic Candidia infections are of major concern in neonates, especially in those with risk factors such as longer use of broad spectrum antibiotics. Recent studies showed that also term babies with underlying gastrointestinal or urinary tract abnormalities are much more prone to systemic Candida infection. We report a very rare case of candidiasis caused by Candida kefyr in a term ...
متن کاملDisseminated Candida tropicalis presenting with Ecthyma-Gangrenosum-like Lesions.
Disseminated candidiasis in immunosuppressed patients has been classically associated with an erythematous papular eruption, however more severe presentations are possible. We present a patient who developed disseminated Candida tropicalis that presented with hemorrhagic bullae that progressed to large necrotic ulcers.
متن کاملCandida antigenemia, as detected by passive hemagglutination inhibition, in patients with disseminated candidiasis or Candida colonization.
A passive hemagglutination inhibition assay was studied by using a hyperimmune serum from rabbits immunized with whole yeast cells (Candida albicans group A). This technique was effective at detecting small amounts of laboratory-prepared mannan or a whole-cell extract of C. albicans. Of 32 patients with documented disseminated candidiasis that were tested, 19 showed evidence of circulating anti...
